Our Events & Programs

Kindness Carnival

In the fall, Compassionate Pomona hosts an annual Pomona Kindness Carnival at the Pomona Civic Center that features family-friendly activities. The third annual carnival’s theme was “Unity in the Community.” Entertainment included a Native American blessing, performances by Aztec Dancers, the Pomona Unified School District Honors Choir, and an appearance by Pomona Poet Laureate Cesar Avelar. The event brings together more than 50 organizations, civic leaders and community members to celebrate compassion and uplift local youth.

 

Character Champion (CC) Framework

This research-based framework presents eight core values for ages 3 & up that teach using compassion, taking responsibility, seeking knowledge, sharing kindness, showing courage, giving respect, using a growth mindset, and working & playing together with synergy. At the preschool level our program introduces eight Character Champion Kids puppets and their animal friends: Temple & Purple Elephant, Amin & Gold Bear, Albert & Green Owl, Ling & Blue Dolphin, Cesar & Orange Wolf, Martin & Red Lion, Cali & Growth Mindset Hummingbird, Kai & Rainbow MetaHawk. SKY Breathing


SKY Schools has been partnering with Pomona Unified School District for over 10 Years. These evidence-based programs show improved academic performance and reduced behavioral incidence. SKY Schools programs are offered through the Parent University - and Courageous Conversations workshops. Most importantly, it is being offered this year to students in over 10 schools; K - high school. Compassionate Pomona is thrilled to partner in the effort to bring SKY Schools workshops to the Pomona Community.

 

Pomona Unified School District

Pomona Unified School District supports both the academic and social-emotional needs of children by providing a safe, engaging environment where children can feel connected, supported, and receive quality instruction. Our schools are the center of our communities where families feel comfortable asking for help and students and parents know they are part of a family, where everyone has a seat at the table. We ensure that our students feel valued and connected so they can achieve. We teach our students the importance of awareness, compassion, responsibility, and commitment and provide them with tools to find calm, peace, and love. We are proud to be PUSD!


Pomona Police Department

An active participant in CP, the police department offers a variety of programs to the community. Many efforts are in support of youth such as the Explorer Program. The department has implemented a number of innovative ideas such as K9 Tuckerman who graduated from the Canine Companions for Independence program. Officer Tuckerman was a special guest at the 2023 Kindness Carnival, assisting children in obtain library cards — emphasizing the availability of free educational resources in Pomona.


Art of Compassion

Discover the Art of Compassion, a transformative community program presented by CP in partnership with Andy Quinones of the SoCal Service Corps. Join Andy as he hosts engaging one - two hour art and dialogue workshops, where participants delve into the essence of compassionate living while painting hexagon cloth tiles. Each painted tile becomes a part of a larger public mural, symbolizing the collective effort to spread kindness and empathy throughout Pomona and beyond. Unite with fellow community members in this creative endeavor to inspire compassion and connection.
