National Giving Month December
December is National Giving Month.
According to National Giving Month, “National Giving Month promotes a strong and vibrant charitable and philanthropic sector ensuring all Americans experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It celebrates donors, volunteers, corporations, foundations and organizations who financially invest in the local, state and national challenges before us.”
Random Acts of Gratitude Month
November is National Gratitude Month.
According to A Grateful Planet, “Everything in our lives has the ability to improve when we are grateful. Research has shown that gratitude can enhance our moods, decrease stress and drastically improve our overall level of health and wellbeing. On average, grateful people tend to have fewer stress-related illnesses and experience less depression and lowered blood pressure, they are more physically fit, they are happier, have a higher income, more satisfying personal and professional relationships and will be better liked. Grateful kids are even more likely to get A’s in school.”
Individuals are encouraged to complete random acts of kindness throughout the month and tag these acts on social media with #kindnessPomona. These will be highlighted our front page.
October Hug Campaign
October is Depression Awareness Month.
We are sponsoring a Hug Campaign, hosted by Just Us 4 Youth, to bring awareness to depression and suicide. Individuals are challenged to give 12 hugs in a day, starting on October 7. The hashtags we are using will be #JU4YHugWeek #JU4YHugDay #DepressionAwareness #HugChallenge, and if you tag #kindnessPomona we’ll re-share your post.
Why hugs? Hugs can instantly boost oxytocin levels, which heal feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anger. Hugs strengthen the immune system. And lastly, hugs boost self-esteem while it relaxes muscles.
Random Acts of Kindness Month
On April 1, 2019, the City of Pomona proclaimed April to be Random Acts of Kindness Month. Citizens are encouraged to complete random acts of kindness throughout the month and tag these acts on social media with #kindnessPomona. These will be highlighted our front page and participating partners will be recognized at the end of the month.
1-2 workshops using art to stimulate dialog around compassion. Participants generate a nine-by-nine square of cloth to be included in a Compassion Quilt representing organizations, groups, families, and individuals from across the city. For more information, email Andrew Quinones.
