A Proclamation for September
A PROCLAMATION BY COMPASSIONATE POMONA, A CONSORTIUM OF CARING INDIVIDUALS AND AGENCIES IN THE CITY OF POMONA, PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 2020 AS “UNITY AND PEACE’’ MONTH IN THE CITY OF POMONA
WHEREAS, as a Compassionate Pomona—in concurrence with the Charter for Compassion which the City of Pomona proclaimed on April 2nd, 2018—we continue to focus on thoughts and actions that promote compassion and inner and outer peace; and
WHEREAS, in alignment with the goal of compassion, Compassionate Pomona has identified “Unity and Peace” as actions and values which support the Charter for Compassion; and
WHEREAS, during the month of September as the new school year begins, days shorten, and Earth’s yearly cycle confronts us, we remain steadfast in our efforts to make the world healthy and safe for each living being; and
WHEREAS, we have new appreciation for our human sameness as together we each face the threat of pandemic with increased physical and social isolation, fear of loss, and suffering in its many forms; and
WHEREAS, we value our human differences and celebrate our diversity while being acutely aware of our need to be part of, and not excluded, from the larger whole; and
WHEREAS, awareness of connection and consciousness of unity are antidotes to isolation whether it has been created by pandemic, racism, economic inequity, and social injustice; and
WHEREAS, unity not only aligns our energies and resources, but lays a path toward peace; and
WHEREAS, we have daily options to act peacefully even in the presence of conflict, to listen, to learn, and to appreciate each other; and
WHEREAS, we can, through thoughtful intention, love in the presence of hatred and forgive in the presence of injury by recognizing our mutual humanity; and
WHEREAS, as a community of souls we can work in harmony embracing peaceful expression of our unique selves and contributing to the whole and common good; and
WHEREAS, we now have opportunities to connect in new ways via the Internet, to host conversations and exchange of ideas, to invent interactive (but socially distanced) games, to learn new approaches to arts and crafts, to poetry, to music, to theater, and to education itself; and
WHEREAS, schools, businesses, and governmental and non-profit agencies can encourage and support projects and programs to engage our community in positive activities which foster friendship and respect; and
WHEREAS, Compassionate Pomona encourages all Pomonans to embrace “Unity and Peace” through intention and action and to use “#valuesPomona” to share this movement on social media, thus integrating “Unity and Peace” into the daily life of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, COMPASSIONATE POMONA does hereby proclaim the month of September 2020 as the month of
