“Our music group, The Longhorn Project.”
Type of Project: Activity
“Our music group, The Longhorn Project, performed in the school’s cafeteria Gratitude Themed songs during lunch hours, on Wednesday and Thursday (11/20 & 11/21). Between the songs, we shared messages that highlight Gratitude: being thankful for what have been given to us (our well-being, our family, our friends, our caring teachers and staff members, and our giving community organizations and members).
Our goal was to enlighten the students to realize the blessings which will help them Build and Preserve Friendship, Teacher-Student Connections, Our School, and Appreciation for School-Staff and Resources; in turn, learn to Take Advantage of School and Community Programs that provide Enrichment, Safety, as well as Improve Individual Academics.
- With the inception of the PBIS program in our school, TLP has sought opportunities to help promote Positive School Climate. With the upcoming Thanksgiving Break, we saw the “Attitude for Gratitude” project as the perfect venue to share the words of Gratitude; of giving thanks for with what we are blessed.
For the Attitude for Gratitude performance, the 8th grade members included Brian Camarena (Guitar & Bass), Jayden Lee (Drums), Zahara Arrezola (Vocals), Mikel Zamora (Vocals), Prena Bhul (Vocals) and the group Advisor, Mr. Lee (Keyboards). We performed the songs “Kind & Generous” by Natalie Merchant, “Everybody’s Changing” by Keane, “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley, and “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King.
We received numerous positive feedback; so much so, that, we agreed to continue on this practice next year. If occasion permits, it would be an honor to perform the songs for the organizing members of the PUSD and the City of Pomona. Thank you so much.
